A tall, brown-eyed verte safir, clad in brown-and-gold naquzrima, is sitting in a corner booth at a high-end fusion restaurant, sipping from a glass of what appears to be wine. She appears to be waiting for someone, looking down impatiently at an object in her lap every few minutes.

She is soon joined by her someone in question, a fellow tall lady safir, although she is much more casually dressed and contains a peculiar, plainum blonde shade of hair with a slight degree of spikes on top. Is that also a faint streak of paint near the waistline of her shirt? (edited)

Meanwhile a couple tables over, in a corner booth, sits 2 men. Obviously human men, and obviously related from their remarkably similar physical characteristics and familiar attitude: both about 6' tall, blonde, well-built athletic physique, though one sported slightly more muscle heft than the other, and additional bionic nekomimi ears & tail. The bulkier one had yellowish eyes and slightly more golden-toned hair, undercut, with zig-zag/tiger-stripe shapes shaved in the cyan-colored sides&back. The other's eyes were a more acid-green, and he had no special coloring or shaved-design to his light-blonde hair, though it was also undercut. They both have obvious ports/plugs on the base of their skull, above each temple (though the nekomimi of the one cover this portion/are plugged-in there), and (depending on what viewing angle you're at, whether-or-not it'd be visible idk) each inner wrist. There is no food on the table yet, but both sport a glass of ice-water, and the acid-eyed slightly-softer-looking one has warm tea, which he is holding pensively, zoned-out lost in thought. Buff nekomimi-guy has a book in front of him which he appears to be reading.

Burly-cyborg-cat-man's ears fidget when Þālia looks over. As though he can sense her gaze. Eventually it's enough that he looks up from the book, and turns in her general direction, scanning the room, as though looking for the source of the disturbance. But of course, Jaruhad had just come in with the food, so connection is missed between Þālia an the man. For now. He doesn't return to his book immediately though, lingering on her table a while, considering-- but probably just eyeballing the food. Hungrily. After a moment just before it's too creepy, he does return his attentions to his table, when the other man chimes in with a snarky tone, "Stop staring, you fucking creep." Cat-man counters, "I smelled something." "Heh, no shit Sherlock- it's a restaurant. We're going to get our food soon too, you know." "No, that's not it-- somebody was watching us." "Somebody's always watching us, Germs. We're freaks." "OH GET OVER YOURSELF! Quit with the damned DRAMATICS!”, cat-man snaps to the other sharply and somewhat dramatically lol. “...But no, there was pheromones...good ones...” it’s not fear or disgust..., he thinks to himself. The acid-eyed man scoffed, mumbled something that sounded cynical and taunting in response to his earlier chastisement, looking away and out the window. His cat-eared companion merely ignores this almost adolescent petulance as he again scans the nearby tables, both searching and longing. (edited)

Since she’s looking their way, this time when cat-man looks up, there’s a connection— eyes lock. And he STARES. His expression is neutral—even somewhat inviting with the hint of haughty smile that slides over—but the immovable gaze has a predatory feel: its as fixed as hunter on prey. He just stares her down, as if to challenge, What do you want? Assuming the silent standoff lasts long enough, the other man has also vacantly wandered his attention back to the table, noticed his companions attentions caught with laser attention elsewhere, and thus in curiosity (and a hint of defensiveness) himself joined the look.

He speaks soft but sharp (so anyone actively listening nearby might be able to hear), “STOPIT— ok, you were right, now leave it alone.” But the other continues to stare, Alpha asserting dominance and not about to step-down from this challenge. “Do we know them?” he mutters distractedly to the other. Quick nervous glance back at the Safir women before cowering to the wall, embarrassed and annoyed and wishing he were anywhere but here right now— anywhere that his godforsaken extroverted bro wouldn’t drag unnecessary attention down on them as usual. “I have no idea—they all look the same to me still,” he snaps back, trying to pull his companion around to the table again with the hand on his shoulder. But that has no effect, except to get that hand grabbed and swatted off by said buffer counterpart with a dismissive, “Drink your tea, Rat.”

Unfortunately, neither man picks that up. Something about their DNI direct neural interface units had rendered Safir telepathic attempts shoddy at best— cat-ears-guy had been completely immune/unreachable from the start. The other had started to open-up a little, but it was still erratic whether-or-not things got through. Nevertheless—or, perhaps because of the lack of reception, and both of them being well aware that’s a common part of Safir communication that they didn’t connect with— Buff-Nekomimi gets up and confidently walks over to the other table. Offering a self-assured (and probably Arumali) “Hello, ladies” or whatever is the proper equivalent, he sits himself down without waiting for an invite, and continues in English: “Your mind-tricks don’t work on us, so you’ll have to use your words. 😉 <smug, teasing smile> What did you want?”

Alita rears her head back calmly, nodding to the nekodude as if to relay she was indeed trying to communicate with beforehand, unaware his interface neutralized her signals, responding back in the same language, "Good evening~" she says with an optimistic chirp. Nekodude chuckles, "You haven't met foreigners like us, though. Is that why you <looks between the women> were eyeing us?" He turns specifically to Þālia, "Do you know who I am?" He says it with an air of self-importance, as though used to being recognized. (edited)
(Meanwhile, other guy is back at the table GLARING at these events. His thoughts may not be clear, but his emotions certainly are--he has no control, they're blasting everywhere. He was embarrassed, scared, but also ANGRY. So much anger, wrapped inside, and for no obvious reason. It's like it was his natural state, ever-present fuel simmering constantly.) (edited)

Nekoguy seems surprised. Her compliment to his ears causes a weird wave of mixed emotions to flow over the guy, and just for a moment breaks his seemingly-unbreakable and bottomless confidence. "You like my ears?" he seems shocked for an instant, as if nobody had ever said anything nice about them before... but it's only an instant; then the full-of-himself Alpha-dick returns: "Yes, they are distinctive, where I'm from. Not like here.-- You don't know, so I'll tell you: I'm Jeremy." He reaches out a hand in the common greeting gesture, then waves the arm over toward his prior table and glowering companion, "And that is my unfortunate kin. Xzenor." He beckons said kin over, but only receives a fervent nod NO, and even angrier turn, as if the other is now mad at being invited. Jeremy debates bringing Zi over by force, but lets it rest for the moment, returning to his new acquaintances, "He's not very social. Among other disappointing traits." (edited)

Jeremy smiles at the introduction of names, before looking over both women quickly (checking them out, though subtly and with some degree of class-- it could just as easily be that he looked over them to make sure they weren't a threat, for example) and then more obviously checking-out the breadsticks. He has never been good with empathy, but his chemoreceptive "ears" enable him to know something's up with Thalia, so he addresses her again and takes a guess: "You're disappointed? Why?" He assumes it's something personal to him, and would never guess it was due to a lack of Xzenor's company-- though, he himself was disappointed by that too, lol.

Jer obviously is a bit distracted by her brushing through hair action. Again, it's a subtle delay but it's there; just that hint of lingering attention before following hers towards Zi and back. The fact she responds in Airumali (combined with Alita doing the talking previously) tips him off to the fact she doesn't know English, and while he doesn't know much Airumali, he's smart enough to have picked up a few words in their time here. But Zi knew more-- he'd always been slightly better at languages. All Jer caught was why, friend and maybe a few more. (edited)
(NOT DONE SORRY DIDN'T MEAN TO ENTER LOL)
Jeremy doesn't understand that she wants Zi to join, but he does get that it's something about Zi. He mentions something about Xzenor being "Yeah, he's a complete mess", probably also "moronic at times" with a light chuckle, but then he turns to Alita and essentially asks for a translation/check on his interpretation: "Is his aura bothering you?"

Jer nods. Contemplatively / with a bit of a frown, "He's never in the mood." Then looking between both women, he smirks, eyes gleaming with the smug shine of having a secret, "But I love him anyways. And he loves me..." smoothly getting up from the table with the grace of a cat as he speaks, "...even if he doesn't want to." He swaggers back to his table and slides in, exchanging a few indiscernible hushed but stern words with Xzenor. A hand goes to Zi's shoulder, gently nudging him out the booth, but it's rejected viciously. Still Jer persists, bringing the hand back to meet scowling Xzenor's face. It's pushed away again with more scowls and some swears, but all that does is make Jer sneer and lean in closer, over the table. He grab's Xzenor's head between both hands and pulls it towards him, forcing Zi to himself lean over the table. Words are whispered in ears, growls are emitted, and it looks like Xzenor is about to punch Jer, but instead, Jer LICKS him long across the cheek earning release with a taunting chuckle. While Zi is wiping the saliva off his face, Jer takes the chance to grab him behind the neck (at the base of the skull) and lead him out the booth, over to the women's table. Maintaining his stronghold grip, he guides (forces) Xzenor into the seat by Thalia, then taking the spot by Alita again himself. (edited)

Jeremy doesn't understand the Airumali, and Xzenor doesn't initially understand the question, so it takes a moment of them both looking a bit confused (and Jeremy, impatient, waiting for Xzenor or Alita to translate). Zi is an introvert anyways, so it takes him time to formulate responses and move thought into words even in his native language; but he tries, managing to get out in Airumali: "I was fight war at Mars--" stops, gestures between himself & Jer, "--WE fight war, then BIG light, BOOM!, sleep. Wake-up at beach. How storm bring us here." This was his attempt at answering his misinterpretation of Thalia's question. Watching them and not completely satisfied with how it was/n't sinking in, he adds, "--We from other Earth. Not your Earth. Safir and human and we confused this long time, haha." He stops then, to catch his breath/recover from this taxing use of foreign language. A little surge of that always-present anger rises and flickers for a moment, and with an anxious laugh and forced smile looking down at the table, Zi says, again in Airumali, "Sorry, my speak is not good; I know only little. " Looks up for a moment to glance at Jer, "Brother is more smart but I have full computer-brain storage, he does not have, so I can remember more words. So he make me talk." The last part is said with a bit of apology, but also that bitterness that underlies the pair. As all that is allowed to sink-in, despite Zi's bitter glance at Jer, HE Jeremy has a twinkle of pride in his eyes over Zi's demonstration of language, and confidently adds in English, "We've been here a long time, obviously. We might never leave, so we have to adapt as much as possible." His trademark naughty smile returns, "Learn the language, eat the food, form alliances." Jer managed to make the last part suggestive, earning a disapproving grumble and shove from Xzenor as if to say, stop it! you're being CRUDE and embarrassing/ insensitive! (edited)

At these words, Zi looks over at Jer out the corner of his eyes, as if seeing how he's going to respond (darkly amused--and maybe a hint disgusted--at what he's might say). Jer meanwhile suddenly assumes that intense predatory focus again. He leans in, resting his forearms on the table and getting closer to the safir women. In calm, but measured voice, he says, "Oh? You sure?" then his voice lowers to a deep purr-- more like a growl-- "I eat meat." Somehow, those words seem to have more weight to them, like there's layers of meaning beneath the obvious. "Is that a problem?" It was weird. Creepy. No denying that. The sudden and unexpected nature of the turn amplified the underlying weirdness. Even if the safir can't reliably telepath to these men, with enough effort they could get some limited readings out of them, and it didn't take much to realize now: these guys are potentially dangerous. They're exactly what they claim to be, and that's alien. However, aside from that oddly threatening statement, and flattened bionic ears with anxious tail-twitches, at least Jeremy doesn't make any aggressive moves. (Xzenor still looks on somewhat amused, but also, detached-- he's apparently seen this before, and seen worse; he was used to this.)

Unfortunately for Alita, both Jeremy & Xzenor were stone-cold sober, and typically pretty straightlaced on that front. Then again, that very sobriety enables Zi to be in constant alert, always analyzing, so after a more than sufficient awkward silence following Jer’s last remark, Xzenor decides its high time he step-in to prevent any unnecessary escalation. It’s not that he really cares about these strangers—friendly as they may be—nor that he at all enjoys or is skilled at defusing tense situations, but he knows from too much unpleasant experience that tense with Jeremy is bordered with violent by a razor-sharp line, made all thinner when he’s hangry. Since Jer was already talking food— and had more than once noticeably eyed theirs—Zi didn’t want to see these lovely women become the meal. It’s happened before, and he just couldn’t deal with that today. Or ever again, for that matter. So it was time to act. He slowly turns around to face the table, and leans in toward Jeremy, putting an his arm over the man’s broad shoulders with the air of someone trying to coax their friend away from an impending brawl. “Hey-“ he says in short, no-nonsense (English/American) voice, “stop scaring the natives. I get you’re hungry, just—“ he reaches towards the few remaining breadstick appetizers, and looks at the women with a strangely pleading/urgent appeal, “—have some bread. Can we have the bread?” Jer rears back to look at Xzenor with a new angry FIRE in his eyes. “I’m not taking their food and it’s CARBS, ZI! I NEED PROTEIN, NO MORE OF THIS LEAF-EATER SHIT!” Xzenor isn’t phased by this outburst, he only seems more determined to remain calm and convince Jeremy to eat. “I know, I know but you ditched tables, it’s your own damned fault to wait to order now. Just eat it and stop being a creep-ass carnivore MONSTER.” Jer stares him down, that fire still simmering but at least holding steady. “Worthless carbs, Zi. Bread is gr—“
“OH FOR FUCKS SAKE NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOUR MUSCLE-TONE ANYMORE!” Xzenor interrupts. “It’s just me, ok? These Safir women, they LIKE their scrawny men so Jer, just eat the damned breadsticks, or get ahold of yourself and wait for the real meal without hunting your new friends here. Hell.” Despite seeming unaware of their excessive drama and unnecessary scene they always cause, both boys are well aware, and displeased by it. But also both to proud to immediately acknowledge the fact through apology to their very unfortunate bystanders sitting with them. Not yet. Ego has to pretend everything’s ok still, nothing embarrassing or compromising has just happened— Everything’s ok here! Nothing to see! Move along, everyone!

Þālia lets out a small squeak, making a 😖 face and empathically radiating embarrassment.

Alita looks to her and then back to the pair of guys, a bit of a smirk in her eyes. The way she carries her hair she looks like she's packing sass herself. "Short, maybe, but not scrawny. I bet some can still put up a fight against you if you realy wanted them too."

Þālia’s mind is suddenly occupied by an imagination of a blue, elf-eared, four-armed Manny Pacquiao… but she’s definitely still embarrassed at Jeremy and Xzenor’s outburst. (edited)

Xzenor looks nervous— scared, even. And now definitely a bit angry, and definitely at them. Though he doesn’t wait for permission any longer and takes a breadstick and hands it to Jer, who with a snarl takes it and then CHOMPS right into it putting on a show of it for Xzenor and the rest. In between the bites/tears, he growls, sinister and challenging seriousness, “Not likely.” For a mere moment, something changes— there’s a...sound like quick-moving metal... 2inch-long dagger/needle CLAWS release over his fingertips from previously-unnoticed lines along the tops of each finger— but then they immediately retract again. Another display. And this physical, real-time demonstration (along with Jer’s beastly devouring of the breadstick) is now suddenly overlaid by a flash of something much more...emotional, distant, but nevertheless poignant. Just a quick scene like a memory from long ago, but it’s not vague like you’re typical childhood recollection, it’s SHARP and seeped in terror. And filled full-screen by what was obviously Jeremy. Blood-drenched and psychotic and tearing at something organ-y and red and dripping, in the same manner he eats the breadstick. It’s a vision of Jeremy The Monster, consuming his kill, which judging by the horror associated with the vision was more than a mere hunk of flesh. Or they were previously, at any rate. Before being mauled by those claws and savaged by this man turned animal. Thankfully, the vision was fast— something leaked from the sheer force of it, but by all likelihood consciously repressed. It was obviously real though, not just an imagination. It wasn’t their memory of course, but it was someone’s. And his attitude maybe just made a little more sense now.

Alita flinches at the flash, the first time she's really shown any emotional vulnerability at the scene, and certainly spooked a bit by the beastly potential that Jeremy has shown in his past.

Þālia turns away from Jeremy & Xzenor and curls up into a ball, uncontrollably radiating abject terror as a vision flashes across her own mind, one soaked with fear & pain, and dominated by a giant, white-and-purple spider chasing Þālia through a meadow bordered on two sides by a web-covered forest. And tackling Þālia to the ground. And sinking its mouthparts deep into Þālia. AND RENDING A HUNK OF BLUE FLESH FROM ÞĀLIA. (edited)

Alita leaps down to comfort Thalia, never knowing that she suffered such a predatory trauma in the past either, shooting a bit of a resigned snarl at Jeremy. She's not happy about the feedback loop that is going on and is hoping Thalia telepathically exhausted herself enough to not flash much more beyond this for the time being.

The verte is shaking and saying — no, singing? that sounds like it could be… birdsong? — something to herself in between whimpers.

Another safir from a nearby table comes over to comfort Þālia as well, while her mate has his hands full with trying to calm their baby, who's crying quietly. (edited)

All Alita can do for the moment is assume a D: face, offering Thalia a brief hug before the fellow customer tends to her. She looks back at Jeremy and Zi, still very confused and frustrated of the situation. "I don't know why you snapped like that, but I don't like that it made her relive a horrible memory in return."

Barely hearing her words, mostly seeing all the trouble they’ve caused, and starting to panic under the social-anxiety and just general overload of bad attention and looks, Xzenor frantically glances back towards their previous corner booth— nice, protective, closed-off corner booth— as well as the door, desperately wishing an escape. Anything but this, to be anywhere but here, in THIS kind of situation, now, LIKE TOO OFTEN BEFORE.(!!!). Thankfully for Xzenor, Jeremy the monster was also—and more commonly— Jeremy the action-man, protective father-brother-boyfriend, and too sociopathic narcissist to be bothered by the same crippling shame and insecurity of his companion. He gets stock of the situation, no doubt aided by his chemoreceptive ears and the outpouring of defensive pheromones now clouding the place, so without further adieu he bites down the remaining breadstick bits and with a quick, “Verywell then. You can have your table back; space to deal with your troubles undisturbed,” Jer stands and slides out as gracefully and unperturbed as when he’d arrived. He stops to wait for Zi, who looks all manner of flustered and negative and PISSED but also is quite glad at the opening for exit, quickly scrambling (not gracefully) up and around to stand by Jer, and allow himself to be guided back towards the booth. But before reaching it, Zi says something indiscernible to Jeremy— begging him to just forget the place and GO— and with a reluctant look back at the Safir women and scan around the room, a long second of paused and disgruntled consideration, Jer consents and the two head towards the door. There were other restaurants. They weren’t likely to get good service here after all that, anyways. Probably more meat, and faster access to it, elsewhere.

(I'm thinking. XD)
Alita is not pleased at the apparent dining and dashing of the two guys, but without any form of telepathic trace on them, she knows it's likely futile to stake them out at this point. For now her concern remains with Thalia and hoping she can make it through the night.

She's still whimpering, but not shaking anymore, so Alita and the other's comforting seems effective. However, she is clutching at the spot where she was chewed on all those years ago, in phantom pain.
