I guess now I’ll have to make sure there ARE “pics from the Alliance”

Yoshiman40008-Dec-18 09:40 PM
I like the Game Boy font 8D

I just wish I had any comprehension of it at all lol
Yoshiman40008-Dec-18 09:42 PM
Hrm, so wait, the numbers use back 16, not 12? o.O
Vāstra II08-Dec-18 09:43 PM
Correct; some other species use hexadecimal, and there is a movement among safir (which I may officialize) to use hexadecimal as a compromise between duodecimal and vigesimal(edited)
Yoshiman40008-Dec-18 09:45 PM
Would vigesimal be based on a modified 0-9 system (i.e. 0-9 with a mark denoting 10-19)?
Also, I think this means I have to slightly relearn Sapphira's name XP
Cause I think a few characters have changed slightly, as well as the vowel system
Vāstra II08-Dec-18 09:47 PM
I'm not sure
Yoshiman40008-Dec-18 09:49 PM
Uhhh... T + nas = N?
Vāstra II08-Dec-18 09:49 PM
Yes, or D
Yoshiman40008-Dec-18 09:50 PM
Okay, so that does still work out
judging by how I wrote "Ansin Aeterna"
Vāstra II08-Dec-18 09:50 PM
While we wait for Yoshiman to explain what he's asking, have a mockup of a status screen from a hypothetical Ãirumāli translation of Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver, which is ugly as sin because of tile boundaries
and one that looks passable but requires variable-width fonts and, as such, will be much more difficult to realize

Generic female Safir concept coming along nicely now. Spoiler/strong suggestion: since the Safir females are the physically superior (bigger, stronger) sex, this should be reflected in their physique. They should be more like Amazonian strong-women than lingerie models. Also, an extra set of arms—even if they’re smaller/atrophied compared to the main pair—inevitably creates a more hefty appearance too.
But I’ll post my concept sketch once it’s far enough along.
Vāstra II12-Dec-18 09:11 PM
They should be more like Amazonian strong-women
Jeylien12-Dec-18 09:12 PM
It makes absolutely zero sense for them to be slight and dainty manga girls.
Pretty is for the males
Vāstra II12-Dec-18 09:12 PM
I don't see any reason for them to be built, given their pacifism and their preference for psionic strength over physical
You're looking at the wrong kind of manga, then

MANGA IS LITERATURE!
Vāstra II12-Dec-18 09:13 PM
Sit down, Natsuki.
Jeylien12-Dec-18 09:13 PM
Don’t lie— you just want them to look stereotypic-sexy for your own preferences.
Yoshiman40012-Dec-18 09:14 PM
Jeylien12-Dec-18 09:14 PM
It has nothing to do with biological/anatomical sense
Vāstra II12-Dec-18 09:15 PM
"I think they should be attractive to humans" and "Their culture selects against muscular physique" are not mutually exclusive statements.(edited)
Jeylien12-Dec-18 09:15 PM
Well, crap. Nevermind then.
I guess I should be making them fat instead... crap crap I am so bad at drawing fat, prob b/c I’m super biased against it...
Yoshiman40012-Dec-18 09:16 PM
Vāstra II12-Dec-18 09:16 PM
Nor did I ever say they should be fat. >_>
Nor indeed have I any idea where you got that idea from. o_o
Jeylien12-Dec-18 09:17 PM
You’re either going to see muscle or fat. Or bone.
Yoshiman40012-Dec-18 09:18 PM
Jei, I think you're trying to put them through a dichotomy which really doesn't exist.
Vāstra II12-Dec-18 09:18 PM
Jeylien12-Dec-18 09:19 PM
I’m trying to make something that actually looks realistically alien.
Vāstra II12-Dec-18 09:19 PM
I'm pretty sure there exist women both within and without fiction who are neither muscular, fat, nor possessed of a glut of visible bones.
Jeylien12-Dec-18 09:19 PM
Yeah, but they look/are human. A Safir shouldn’t look human, they should look Safir
Yoshiman40012-Dec-18 09:19 PM
Granted, the males are probably going to be on the dainty side (you've already seen Arkanis for one), but that doesn't mean the women can't be on the thinner side either.
Vāstra II12-Dec-18 09:20 PM
And safir are humanoid. (well, elvenoid, but close enough.)
Jeylien12-Dec-18 09:20 PM
There should be an obvious difference. Even with sexually compatible species, they’re still different species, there are noticeable differences in anatomy.
Yoshiman40012-Dec-18 09:24 PM
Well, we have the skin color, extra arms, and "inverted" height differential for starters
Vāstra II12-Dec-18 09:24 PM
Yoshiman40012-Dec-18 09:25 PM
Also a regular presence of hermaphrodites which really doesn't exist in primates
Granted, psionic ability isn't so much anatomy but it's an ocean apart from humans o.O
Vāstra II12-Dec-18 09:26 PM
I imagine it would make their brain anatomy rather different, as well
Jeylien12-Dec-18 09:27 PM
Once you start changing anatomy outside typical human variance levels (as should be the case for a NONHUMAN species), they inevitably start to be less instantly-sexy, b/c we’re inherently biologically conditioned to be most attracted to our own species for very understandable and obvious biological reasons.
It would make absolutely zero sense for the Safir to be as attractive to us or more on a purely physical level, as a model of our own species, unless they were intentionally created as sexual objects for human gratification, which of course they’re not. Even if they’re a hybrid-human species or humans are derived from them, they’re still a different species and presumably weren’t designed for sex with humans therefore aren’t necessarily the sexiest beings to humans. Not when compared with another human.
There’s going to be something off about them, that looks extreme in one way or another, by human standards.
The psionics is probably what makes up for this physical gap. It’s really the only way to reasonably overcome the uncanny-valley type effect.
^ Yes, I’ve given them much larger craniums. This helps alienize them but also lowers their attractiveness, and has noticeable affects on other aspects of anatomy, which is why I say they’d have to be more muscled in some ways— larger head weighs more, means you need a stronger neck to carry it and wider hips to birth it.
Vāstra II12-Dec-18 09:28 PM
I'm not appreciative of your insistence on pushing the safir into the uncanny valley.
Jeylien12-Dec-18 09:29 PM
Le sigh. Ok then. I give up.
You’re right—it’s not worth it.
Yoshiman40012-Dec-18 09:30 PM
I respect your reasoning but I just think you're trying too hard.
Vāstra II12-Dec-18 09:30 PM
Why not draw them as is without the insistence on “realism”?
Jeylien12-Dec-18 09:30 PM
Good luck on all your endeavors. We’re incompatible and I need to not let myself forget it again.
