On Lessa, there is a colossal dreamweaver colony called The Mesmer (Classical Âirumâli: A Mesmř) or Dreamhell (Classical Âirumâli: A Řaviti): a massive quasisapient dreamsilk web that covers tens of thousands of square kilometers of Lessan forest and jungle, that serves as the capital of and the main food store for dreamweaver society, calling out to sapient beings to walk into it, that it and the arachnoids living within may feed on their waking minds and render them its slaves.
It is estimated that the Dreamhell consumes about two thousand people a year, and that another 1500 or so die within from other causes. The Safìr Alliance have declared the Mesmer a sealed zone, into which no person is allowed to set foot, but this has done little aside from make the Dreamhell's beckonings stronger, the morass going so far as to send its drones to teleport random people into it, not to mention the allegations of certain less-than-scrupulous societies exiling those who have trespassed against them to the Mesmer. The Alliance's finest elemental kineticists, especially pyros, and mindscrews (interference attack-oriented telepaths) are barely sufficient to prevent its spread, owing to the prodigious reproductive capabilities of the psider aristocracy, lest its weave consume more settlements and its consciousness mesmerize more sophonts.
Satellite imagery has estimated the size of the Mesmer to be 45,000 sq km, and has further shown that the morass of gossamer has encased the dreamwweaver empress, along with her egg sacs and the empty shells & memories of her ancestresses, the massive mesmerwright stretched to her breaking point within the silken binds of her own subjects and loosing a continuous, mind-bending, psychic scream that can be heard far away from its source.
A person that wanders more than a kilometer into the Mesmer is considered beyond salvation, especially if they had shown signs of enmesmerment. A psion wandering towards the Mesmer near a safìr guard post is forcibly subdued or shot to deny the psiders their powers; those spotted too late are seen using or benefiting from rare psionic techniques to save the new *nodes* (non-dreamweaver psionic slaves). The use of nagas in this role, due to their ability to constrict, is seen as species treason by Daian nagas, despite the former's high station and respect.
There are claims, usually by lost humans, of pokémon in the Mesmer, but identifying these after the fact as real, pliced memory, hallucination, or illusion is impossible.
